Club Hammam-Lif: A History of Engagement
Written by Nour Ben Cheikh
Sixteen kilometers south of Tunis, in the heart of a seaside town, a small garage holds something extraordinary.
This town has carried many names through the centuries: Naro, in Punic times, meaning "fire" for the hot springs at the foot of Djebel Boukornine. Aquae Persianae, or "the waters of Perseus," under Roman rule. Hammam al-Jazira, then Hammam Lif through the Islamic era. Always tied to water and warmth. Always a place of flow and transformation.
And in this place of ancient metamorphosis, a modern one continues.
